Farewell to Dr Khurshid

It was after Isyak prayer that few Malaysians-Dr Saiful, Azman, Ramzan, Nubli and I were told to stay back. We were listening to the stories from Dr Saiful who just got back from Hajj. To my surprise, it happened to be a farewell party organized by few brothers for Dr Khurshid who has just finished his PhD for Comparative Law. Allahuakbar, Allah is the Greatest.

Bro Jamal, the former president of Belfast Islamic Centre started his short speech to congratulate him for the success. He said ‘We know him in the mosque, and we always see him as a regular comer to the mosque’ ‘As he is going back, we will lose a usual makmum, this is a big loss’

Then, he mentioned a hadith about the seven type of persons that will be in the shadow of Allah in the hereafter, ‘Two of them are person who his heart is attached to the mosque, always look for the mosque to pray anywhere he goes and another one is two persons who meet and separated for the sake of Allah, loves each other only for Allah’s sake. We have no business, money dealings whatever, but love each other for Allah’. We pray for him the best and may the situation in Pakistan will be better.

The celebrated one, Bro Khurshid thanks all who were there. He told us about the judges in Pakistan which are under house arrest, when a brother wished him to be the Chief of Justice in Pakistan.

To be honest, I was not very close to him, but it really is a big loss. People come and go in our life. One thing I can remember was that we discussed about Malaysian political system and the current situation in Malaysia, and he said that he would like to talk more about it later which we never did. Perhaps, I can gain a lot of knowledge from him about things in Pakistan, one of the crucial Muslim countries which is the big factor of stabilisation in Kashmir and Afghanistan.

It was even sadder to know that Bro Jamal Iweida, Palestinian Jordanian and bro Faisal from Holland are also leaving Belfast. It is funny that he thinks that he can sense that I feel very homesick. He even advised me to finish my studies as soon as possible and go back to Malaysia. Whether it is true or not, the truth is not out there, but inside me. Enough said the conclusion is we all need to appreciate everyone around us, especially all of our brothers in Islam.

A sense or spirit of brotherhood between brothers is very important which determine your faith as Allah says in the Quran which means

“The believers are but brothers” Al-Hujurat [49:10]

Allah also says “O, mankind! Surely we have created you of a male and female and make you tribes and families that you know each other, surely the noblest among you unto Allah is one who fears him .Lo! Allah is Knower Aware” Al-Hujurat [49.13]

We all hugged him and I wished him all the best in Pakistan. Ameen.
